Abstract Painting Workshop
Learn how to explore colour, texture, and form through mini studies that combine into one final artwork.
This workshop gives you the full experience of working as an abstract painter. You’ll experiment with different tools and materials, from brushes and palette knives to sponges and everyday objects, learning how each changes the surface and mood of your work. You’ll also explore colour layering and texture so your paintings feel bold and expressive, not flat or predictable.
After a short introduction to abstract theory and inspiration, it’s completely hands-on. You’ll create six mini studies, each using a different technique or material, testing and seeing how every change affects the outcome. Working alongside other participants, you’ll share ideas and approaches while building confidence in your own creative choices. By the end, you’ll bring your six pieces together into one final collective artwork, and you’ll take home a finished piece that proves your creative voice, ready to display or add to your portfolio.

This workshop is led by an accomplished artist who combines creative expertise with a passion for inspiring others
Louise Brook
Louise Brook is a multidisciplinary fine art artist based on the Northamptonshire–Oxfordshire border. Her portfolio spans two distinct but complementary practices: bold, expressive abstract painting and finely detailed wildlife and pet portraiture.
Her abstract work emerges from a place of curiosity, blending research and artistic exploration. Recent collections have tackled themes such as time, the cost-of-living crisis, biodiversity loss, and the evolution of human intelligence. With recurring interests in psychology, human experience, and the fragility of the natural environment, Louise creates work that is both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant.
Alongside her abstracts, Louise is an accomplished wildlife and pet portrait artist. Inspired by nature, she is passionate about using her art to raise awareness of the natural world. Her commissioned portraits are highly sought after, with a loyal base of returning clients. Participants in her workshops benefit from her ability to guide them through creative processes with both technical knowledge and an open, exploratory approach, encouraging freedom, expression, and personal discovery.
